putpwent(3) Library Functions Manual putpwent(3)
putpwent - write a password file entry
Standard C library (libc, -lc)
#include <stdio.h>
#include <sys/types.h>
#include <pwd.h>
int putpwent(const struct passwd *restrict p, FILE *restrict stream);
Feature Test Macro Requirements for glibc (see
feature_test_macros(7)):
putpwent():
Since glibc 2.19:
_DEFAULT_SOURCE
glibc 2.19 and earlier:
_SVID_SOURCE
The putpwent() function writes a password entry from the structure
p in the file associated with stream.
The passwd structure is defined in <pwd.h> as follows:
struct passwd {
char *pw_name; /* username */
char *pw_passwd; /* user password */
uid_t pw_uid; /* user ID */
gid_t pw_gid; /* group ID */
char *pw_gecos; /* real name */
char *pw_dir; /* home directory */
char *pw_shell; /* shell program */
};
The putpwent() function returns 0 on success. On failure, it
returns -1, and errno is set to indicate the error.
EINVAL Invalid (NULL) argument given.
For an explanation of the terms used in this section, see
attributes(7).
